164: Ad hoc gathering

Last night I had a ad hoc dinner with 2 friends.

In fact, guy 1 asked me in msn in the afternoon and I said ok, then he started to find some other guys, and finally, there were guy 1, guy 2 and me.

We went to Kowloon Bay to have dinner and so good that guy 2 drove his car out. His car was quite ying, haha......

We had Japanese food, and more importantly was that we had a memorable dinner in which we had a lot of in-depth conversations. Guy 1 and guy 2 were both mature guys and we all shared many on soft skills in inter-personal relationship, in working environment, in studies and in personal experience. I was also happy that they seemed to have been lighted up by some of my ideas. In fact, I have also been lighted up by some of their ideas.

I am not going to summarise in here the valuable ideas we shared, as I would not intentionally remember them and recite them but they will be around me in my daily life. I think if we really understand them, they need not to be intentionally remembered, and they can be portrayed in daily life scenarios and the effect can be realised.

This kind of little circle dinner enabled each of us to fully participate and exchange in-depth ideas freely. Hope we will have much more opportunities in future.

163: Luxury lunch series: day 4

Today I only worked in the morning and I have called for sick leave in the afternoon.

After having a normal lunch with colleagues in Wanchai, I went to CWB and hang for a while. When I arrived at Windsor House, I saw the shop which won the King of Hamburger award in the King of Catering Awards 2008. It's "Freshness Burger".

Freshness Burger comes from Japan and the first shop in HK is in Windsor House. I was there at about 3pm. There were only a few people inside and I guess it's because the lunch hour has just been over and there was no people as mo liu as me to hang around there at that time. I looked at the menu and the most prices tend to be expensive. I like to try new things and I decided to try whether it is really a King of Hamburger.

Those shown in the menu are typical burgers like beef burger, cheese burger and fish burger, etc, and I think these are quite "normal" but are more expensive than McD, then why not go to McD? Suddenly I saw a colourful blackboard near the cashier and there is a special burger called "Salmon Burger". Then I ordered the Salmon Burger at once and it is $28. Quite expensive indeed, but really want to try.

All burgers of Freshness Burger are made after orders are placed, so they are really fresh. The cashier said the Salmon Burger needs 5 min serving time and she gave me a tall number plate for my order.

My Salmon Burger was finally served and it was packed in a triangular white paper bag which was folded up in the shape of the burger and sticked with a yellow sticker with the word "Special", quite funny, haha.......

Opened the bag, the burger is not very large and size is similar to those of McD. As Salmon Burger is an off-menu special, there is no photo of the burger and I imagined that it was a burger with vegetables, onion and salmon as these ingredients somehow signify freshness. The burger turned out to have onion but have no vegetables, but the taste was very good. The meat inside was essentially a mixture of salmon, beef and tomato and was very rich in taste. And since it was made to order, the whole burger including the bread was quite hot and the bread was very soft. All in all, the whole thing was enjoyable and really wanna it to be bigger.

No photo of the Salmon Burger was taken because there was not many people in the shop and the staff could clearly saw what I was doing, so do have a try when you have this mood!

163: Luxury lunch series: day 3

In fact, today has no definite plan of where to eat but only want to have a better lunch, therefore we went to Outback Steakhouse in Wanchai.

I ordered a hamburger steak set which was served together with deep-fried potato slices and vegetables salad. The hamburger steak had very rich meat taste and the size was much bigger than those served inside slices of bread, and it was served with onion sauce with onion on the top. The taste was very good!

At night, I dated some friends of my old firm in Kowloon City and we had dinner in a Japanese restaurant. I first went with Ding as she is in Central. We planned to go to Mongkok by MTR and then went to Kowloon City by bus because crossing the Harbour Tunnel by bus must have traffic jam. We arrived at Mongkok and she went for fingernail beauty, so I hang around in Mongkok and went to Sino to visit the CD shops.

Ding's fingernail beauty treatment lasted for more than an hour, so long that the organiser Shun was also surprised. But it was very good that Shun drive a car out and he picked up me and Ding in Mongkok. The poor water-drinker just arrived at Kowloon City and searched for the restaurant for a while, haha...........

We again had a dinner full of laughs although there were only 4 people. We were very happy although we see each other not very regularly and still had plenty of things to talk. Shun said that Badman was very depressed because of his work so not come out. Hope he will feel better la.

Kowloon has many good restaurants and is a good place for dinner, but I think the transport is not very convenient as there is no MTR connecting to Kowloon CIty. If there is MTR, I think Kowloon City will become a popular place for great food!

162: Luxury lunch series: day 2

Last nite, I chatted with a colleague in msn and we suggested to eat Japanese food in today's lunch. We planned to make it in a small Japanese food restaurant in Star Street of Wanchai.

Today morning, gathered with 2 other colleagues, I booked a table for 4. The waitress asked me whether I need the menu by fax so that I could make order first. I thought this is not necessary since I guess the waiting time is more or less the same for a pre-order and a dine-in order.

3 of us arrived at 1230 since the remaining friend was in discussion with her manager. We made order first and she arrived at about 1240. The waitress said to her that the waiting time would be longer. So, for this restaurant, the earlier you order the food, the shorter you have to wait, so funny.

I ordered a today's special of 海膽天婦羅照燒雞扖定食, which include the main course as named, a Japanese soup, an appetizer, a Japanese bean curd in cup, rice and drink/ice-cream. Only looked at the content is already very happy, so many things in the set!! Another today's special main course is 海膽吞拿魚魚生飯 and others are the same. Prices are $98 and $158 respectively. Both are very attractive!

I choose the former because I only tried the fresh one before and have not tried tenpura. They are rolled in a piece of seaweed and put into deep fry. Taste is excellent! Having the taste of 海膽 kept and it is very crispy. Very good!

My friend steal a piece of tenpura from me and I steal her some fresh ones. Taste is also very good. Then I shared my experience in Tokyo of going to the fresh seafood market (築地市場) during which I ate a whole pack of fresh 海膽 as breakfast, haha....... The fresh 海膽 in there was the freshest and the most excellent one I have ever tried. The Tokyo trip is very memorable for me!

We were very happy when enjoying our dishes. One friend said he is very happy every time after having lunch in this restaurant. I think he's right because I was also very happy after the lunch, feeling very fulfilled.

Another colleague, who lives in Yuen Long, talked about what good things to eat in Yuen Long. She will organise a day-trip for us, including Japanese lunch, tea K and dinner in Big Wing Wah Restaurant, yeah!!

Anyway, going to Japan again will not happen in the near future. But the lunch today is also a happy experience.

By the way, we got 5 coupons this time, and we will go there again next week!!!

161: Luxury lunch series: day 1

Today I had lunch in Double Star with my colleagues. Although we waited for more than half an hour, we can finish the lunch in around half an hour, haha........

Originally we planned to go there earlier in order to have a slower and better lunch, but it turned out to be done within half an hour, but we did not eat very quickly indeed.

Before the main course came, a western soup and a slice of garlic bread were served. The main course was a fried duck chest long macaroni cooked with olive oil. The duck meat was in slices and were not very salty, and the sauce can match the meat perfectly. The whole thing was not very oily but it was too small in size to satisfy my stomach.

Then I ordered a slice of New York cheese cake, because it has already attracted me when I was waiting outside the cafe, and the cheese cake of Double Star is famous, and I really want to enjoy the lunch. It did meet my expectation and the taste was very cheese. The texture was firm but not too hard. The size is good fit and even eat a whole slice is not too sweet. The feeling is really cool~~

Last but not least, I had a cup of hot coffee and it was a nice end of the whole meal.

I was very happy after finished the whole lunch as it was really a kind of reward for our hard times over the past few months. Already arranged, the series of good and luxurious lunch will continue this week.

160: Tomato and potato soup

Tomato and potato are both rich in nutrition. Tomato & potato soup is my favourite.

My dad can always make it very nice and has a number of versions: + fish or + meat or + preserved vegetables. All three versions are very good, although fish may have a lot of fish bones.

He is also making it for tonite dinner. He is a great chef!

I am also a great chef for instant noodles and all kinds of noodles and I like eating noodles very much. I think if you like a thing and have reasonable time, you will put effort into it in order to make it be the best.

159: Lucky lucky draw

Today my mum and aunt accompanied my grandma went to a senior citizen gathering in a restaurant in Mega Box. Only $80 per head, not very expensive but food is good.

I went home to have dinner today. First I saw my brother was holding a new DC of Nikon. I asked him and he said mum get a prize in lucky draw. Then I asked mum, and she said they were very lucky today. My mum won the 1st prize in the lucky draw of the gathering and got the DC, and grandma won the 2nd prize and got a oven.

My family have never been so lucky that they won the 1st and 2nd prizes. Very happy~~~

158: A healthy cycle

Recently I left earlier for work because my client has already announced annual results and it somehow signified a gradual end of my peak season, so I can get back more of my personal life. It is the best news in 2008!

Leaving earlier, then I can do the things I have not done much for a number of months, such as going home to have dinner and watch TV, hanging around and shopping, meeting friends and blowing water with them, singing K with my crazy friends, etc.

Sleeping earlier, I discovered that I wake up earlier recently and feel more healthy. Then I arrive at office earlier, getting a better seat, start working earlier in the morning and probably finishing work earlier and leaving earlier, sleeping earlier. What a healthy cycle!!

Another important good thing is being able to add post in my blog regularly, haha.........

I discovered and experienced the advantages of start and finish the office hour earlier. This is somehow less pressurised. At least I don't need to be afraid of the emailssssss bombing out when I open Outlook after settling down in office, don't need to be afraid of no seat to sit, don't need my colleagues to say I am away from seat when they receive phone calls calling me, haha..........

I hope this cycle will continue in my coming job.

157: I made the designer very happy!

Tonite went to CWB and hanging around. Wondering why I have worked in CWB for a client in March for the whole month but have never walked into a mall there.

Full of the mood tonite, and bought a number of things.

Happiest thing: being attracted by the display and walked into a shop. Designs are really great and I have selected and tried one, pretty good. Then being introduced into another, and feeling good as well, so tried again, and decided to put it into the basket. Lastly, the designer was very happy because I said his design was gorgeous, and he said he would give me a surprise if I select one more item. He introduced to me another masterpiece of his, then I finally put 3 items into the basket.

The surprise is: the 3rd item is FREE!!! And I became VIP of the shop and can enjoy 20% off for all products!!!

Really very happy, as I also made the designer very happy too~

HK-made things should also be supported! HK-made can also be good!!

156: Artiste and Accounting professionals

In the past, there were only 2 TV broadcasting channels: TVB and ATV. If actors and singers want to make more performance and become more popular, they must sign contract with them and become their contracted artiste. Then they can perform in big shows and popularity grows gradually.

In recent years, more and more channels have emerged, such as cable TV, Now TV, and numerous local websites such as Yahoo! and Sina. Artiste has more channels to show up and now some popular singers are still popular although they have no contracts with TVB or ATV. It is because they somehow no need to rely on these 2 channels to maintain their ricebowl. They can still survive, and in fact with more freedom as they become not bound by any contract. Therefore, the monopoly gradually fade out.


More choices have been opened for these artiste. For the other less popular artiste, most of them are still bound by such contracts. But at least, there are some real examples of success.

Will this happen for accounting professionals? Will the oligopoly fade out? Or it is fading out? Or it has faded out?

155: Marc


He is the new member of my close relative family. Seems very alike to his father who is my cousin, haha......

His name is Marc, which means a March baby. I think it is a very meaningful name.

Happy birthday to his one month old~

I think one-month old, one year old, primary one, secondary one, year one ........ are obviously the most important steps of Marc. And these steps are so special that every step is a new step and new experience. Parents must be very happy to walk along with him to go through all these steps.

I have already passed through these steps, and my next "one" or "first" step, when will happen? haha.........

154: So excited!!

So excited!!

I will go to the one-month birthday party of my cousin brother's BB tonite. This will be my first time I see him. Coz I have been very busy over the last 2 months, really sorry la, haha......

But I have seen his photos. He is really funny and the face is very similar to his dad. And he always "hub" his mum and his mum is too nice to him I think, haha......

Now, I have to cut my fingernails, avoid hurting him when I hold him.
