49: Sense of danger

My Thai trip is enjoyable and memorable and I went to a bar there at one night.

When I told my friends and colleagues that I went to Bangkok alone, they said it is dangerous. When I further told them I went to a bar alone, they said they would not do so if they were me. Am I too brave or have not enough sense of danger? I think it is pretty ok to go to Thai alone and visit their bars alone, but I do have the following reminders to myself:

1. Dun enter those bars outside which there are lots of bar gals (mean there are not much customers inside and you would attract all of them) and choose those have much customers inside.
2. Dun bring along too much $ (about 5 pieces of 100B is very enough) and passport and any important things as you will be in trouble if they are lost.
3. Try not to order drinks but to order bottled beers as things can be put in cups easily.
4. Dun have much eye-contact and smiles with unpleasant strangers in order not to attract them.
5. Dun accept active gifts or active contacts with strangers.

I was inside for about 30 min and everything was pretty safe although some people and unpleasant strangers would come forward to you. Just show your feelings politely is ok and move if necessary. Provided this is safe, experience of going to such bars is nothing bad.

There were lots of bars in the area around the hotel I live in (Grand Mecure Park Avenue (4 stars) - 30 Sukhumvit Road, Soi 22 Klongtoey, Bangkok, Thailand, 10110). About HK$600 per night for single room. 5-7 min walk to BTS Asok station. Although not very well-known, rooms and room facilities are clean and comfortable.
